Desc:Avant Garde Salons position themselves as Austin's leader
in inventing and applying new styles and new techniques in hair care. In order to maintain its leadership position, the company promotes the salons through fashion shows and other artistic events. A collaboration of hair stylists, makeup artists, and photographers periodically produce model shoots and fashion shows. A large volume of digital photographs is created,
and a digital asset management system is needed. The purpose of this Capstone Project is to identify requirements for a digital asset management system, research commercial software, and recommend a metadata system for classifying the digital photographs in the digital assets management system.

Specific learning objectives:

· Identify functional and technical requirements for a digital asset management system.

· Research commercial software that satisfies the functional and technical requirements.

· Define metadata necessary for classifying the digital photographs in the digital asset management system (e.g., photographer, model, makeup artist, stylist, venue, etc.)

Determining Work Responsibilities and Conditions of "Work" in Host Site: Student will need to have a PC/laptop and will do most of the work at home
or at school. APPLE (MAC) experience/owner is preferred.

Planning Methods of Monitoring Progress of Student: Client will meet with student on a regular basis, to be determined at the initiation of the project. Deliverables will include:

· Document identifying functional and technical requirements for a digital asset management system.

· Document providing results of research to locate commercial software that satisfies the functional and technical requirements.

· Document recommending metadata necessary for classifying the digital photographs in the digital asset management system (e.g., photographer, model, makeup artist, stylist, venue, etc.)


Planning Methods of Evaluation to be Used to Assess Experience:
Paper(s) - The student will provide deliverables (papers) on a periodic basis. The focus of the deliverables and criteria for acceptability should be stipulated at the beginning of the term.
