Bio:
Dr. Rice-Lively was a librarian at Dallas Public Library and in The University of Texas Tarlton Law Library and the General Libraries. She also served as the City of Dallas Assistant to the City Manager for the Mayor and Council Office. During her doctoral studies, she developed and taught the School of Information's first Internet class, for which she received The Texas Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Rice-Lively's research interests focus on social and communication behavior among users of new technologies and exploring these interactions using qualitative research methodologies. Among her studies were an investigation of new roles for academic library and information professionals related to information technologies, an ethnography of a class conducted through Internet-based communication, and social sensemaking among participants in a class mediated by teleconferencing and Internet-based communication media.
