1980s

Ann Klavano, '86, is in the midst of a career change. After working as a college reference and instruction librarian, she is now attending Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa to become a Lutheran pastor. While her plans are to become a parish pastor, she is still working in a library doing part-time reference at the University of Dubuque.

1990s

Cynthia J. Charles, '96, is the new managing librarian for the Carver Branch of the Austin Public Library in Austin, Texas.

Michael Martinez, '94, has been appointed interim library director for Hill Freeman Library and Spruill Learning Center at Reinhardt College in Waleska, Georgia.

Yuwu Song, '99, an instruction librarian at Arizona State University has completed his second book, "Encyclopedia of Chinese-American Relations" published by McFarland & Company, Inc. Neal-Schuman Publishers, Inc. He published his first book, "Building Better Web Sites: A How-to-Do-It Manual for Librarians" in 2003.

Noe A. Torres, a McAllen High School librarian and a 1991 graduate, published a book on South Texas baseball history entitled "Ghost Leagues". The full article is at http://www.ischool.utexas.edu/about/news/baseball_09152005.php

2000s

Victoria (Naipavel) Heiduschke, '03, has been selected to be the new preservation librarian at Milner Library, Illinois State University. She will begin her new duties on December 5, 2005.

Rebecca Miller, '04, is a librarian at Cactus Ranch Elementary in Round Rock, Texas.

Carlos Ovalle, '01, has been selected to be a Copyright Scholar by the Copyright Advisory Committee for the Office for Information Technology Policy (OITP) of ALA. Carlos will provide advisory support to the Copyright Advisory Network from December 2005 through December 2006 and will attend a workshop at ALA's Washington, D.C. office.

Grete Pasch, (MLIS) '91, (PhD) '04, director of the Ludwig von Mises library for the Universidad de Francisco Maraquin in Guatemala City, won a national award for best website. Read more at http://www.ischool.utexas.edu/about/news/guatemala_09122005.php

Katherine Haack Pelletier, '03, works as an associate manager of planned giving at the New York Public Library in New York City.

Kevin Rioux, (MLIS) '01, (PhD) '04, was appointed assistant director/assistant professor at the Division of Library and Information Science at St. John's University in Queens, New York.

In Memoriam

Charles L. Dwyer, '63, of Volente, Texas, died July 8, 2005.

Nancy Reeves McAdams, '66, of Austin, died September 18, 2005.
