SOCIAL SCIENCES RESEARCH & INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN

The University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries invites applications from innovative and enthusiastic service-oriented professionals for the position of Social Sciences Research & Instruction Librarian. The Social Sciences Research & Instruction Librarian is a tenure-stream faculty position reporting to the Faculty Director of Research and Instruction. Duties include general and specialized reference in the social sciences and humanities, including responsibilities associated with an information commons; virtual reference; instruction services and classroom teaching as part of an active library instruction program; and selecting library materials and managing collections in one or more social sciences disciplines. This position serves as liaison to students and faculty in one or more assigned academic departments and assumes primary responsibility for providing advanced research assistance and information literacy instruction in relevant subject areas. Current needs may include the areas of education, anthropology, linguistics, or economics. The Social Sciences Librarian supports the integration of new technologies into the Department of Research and Instruction and actively participates in departmental policy planning and delivery of services.

The Department of Research and Instruction provides virtual and in-depth personal reference and instructional services to the students and faculty of the University of Colorado at Boulder and specializes in services and collections for the social sciences and humanities. Significant parts of the responsibilities of this position are research and creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Position Requirements
= Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school;
= undergraduate or graduate degree in the social sciences or equivalent experience;
= coursework and/or experience in providing reference for the humanities or social sciences;
= coursework and/or experience with library instruction or teaching;
= awareness of relevant information technologies;
= demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
= strong interpersonal skills;
= excellent oral and written communication skills;
= potential for research, scholarly work, and/or professional achievement.

Desirable Qualifications
= Advanced degree in the social sciences;
= one-two years of experience in an academic library;
= experience in collection development;
= experience employing quantitative or qualitative research methodologies in the social sciences;
= understanding of data manipulation technologies;
= record of research or professional service at the national level.

Appointment and Salary
The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month), tenure-stream faculty member. Depending upon professional experience and demonstrated accomplishments in scholarly activity, creative work, and service, appointment may be at the level of senior instructor, assistant professor, or above. Starting salary range is $44,000-52,000. Benefits include 22 working days vacation; 10 paid holidays; liberal sick leave; University group health care plan; group life insurance; TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity; and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave.
