The School of Information master's program is accredited by the American Library Association and is ranked as one of the top library and information science graduate programs in the United States in the 2006 US News & World Report rankings of graduate programs. Our nation-wide rankings are:

Any organization that values the identification, acquisition, organization, storage, and dissemination of information critical to its success, as well as the technologies that enable organizations to use information, will value the talents of our graduates. School of Information graduates are prepared to enter diverse careers, including information architecture, usability design/engineering, business research/competitive intelligence, records management, Web design, database design/management, digital records management, archives and museum management, preservation and conservation management, and medical informatics. Additionally, many of our graduates continue to enter the field of librarianship, filling positions in academic institutions, K-12 schools, public libraries, and a wide variety of special libraries in business, medical facilities, law firms, research, and governmental organizations.

Employers may schedule a campus visit to recruit or to present programs to familiarize students with their organization. We will provide office space for interviews or classroom space for information sessions. The JobWeb contains part-time student jobs, internships, volunteer positions, and full-time professional opportunities for individuals seeking employment in the fields of library and information science.

Template for Job Postings

Many people are not familiar with what should be included in a job announcement. If you are not certain of what to include, the following are many of the items that should help attract qualified applicants.

• Job title: Name that describes job
• Organization: Name of employing organization
• Location: City and State or Country
• Closing Date: Date by which applications must be in, or "Until Filled"
• Salary: Hourly, weekly, monthly, or yearly amount, "Based upon Qualifications," or volunteer
• Work Hours: Number of hours per week and timeframe in which work must be accomplished. Especially for student jobs; are the days/times of work flexible so student can work around class schedule?
• Requirements: Minimum skills, education, experience that applicant must possess for consideration
• Essential Duties: Short description of what the individual will do on a day-to-day basis
• Purpose of Position: (optional) Provide short explanation of how this job fits into the needs of the organization.
• How to Apply: Résumé, cover letter, and references (how many?), or application, or whatever process the applicant must follow to apply for the position, to include mailing, e-mail, and/or fax instructions, as appropriate
