Fran Miksa Receives Mann Award at ALA
Professor Emeritus Fran Miska received the 2009 Margaret Mann Citation Award from ALCTS Cataloging and Classification Section of ALA at this years conference in Chicago. The award recognizes outstanding professional achievement in cataloging or classification either through publication of significant professional literature, participation in professional cataloging associations, or valuable contributions to practice. The jury noted Fran's considerable contributions to the profession through his publications and teaching made him "the obvious choice". Dean Dillon received the check on behalf of the school at the presentation ceremony in the Chicago Hilton. He is considered one of the foremost educators and thinkers in the categorization of information entities, publishing more than 30 papers and 5 books, most recently: The DDC, the Universe of Knowledge, and the Post-Modern Library (Albany, N.Y.: OCLC/Forest Press, 1998).
