2005 Presidential Management Fellows

The Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program is a two-year program that provides special training and employment opportunities within the Federal government and promotion potential from GS-9 to GS-12 by the end of the two years. For the 2005 program 643 finalists were selected from 4,000 applicants to interview for employment with Federal agencies at the PMF Job Fair in Washington, DC. Four iSchool students (Michele Akyol, Cheryl Beaver, Monique Delatte, and Brent Mast) were invited to participate.

As stated on the PMF Website (http://www.pmf.gov ), the purpose of the Program is to "attract to the Federal service outstanding men and women from a variety of academic disciplines and career paths who have a clear interest in, and commitment to, excellence in the leadership and management of public policies and programs."

Of the 643 national finalists selected through regional evaluations, three of our students were notified of their selection; invited to the PMF Job Fair in Washington, DC; and received employment offers through the PMF Program. Michele will work for the Department of the Navy as a budget analyst. Both Cheryl and Brent will join our 2004 PMF finalist, Hannah Fischer, at the Congressional Research Service. While our fourth participant was not selected as a finalist, Monique has already started her new job as a Reference Librarian in the West Covina Regional Library in the Los Angeles County Library System. In the two years that students of the School of Information have participated in the PMF Program, all five applicants have been selected as semi-finalists and four of the five have been selected as finalists and are now employed in the program.
