iSchool Receives More Than $1M in Grants

The School of Information has received two federal grants totaling more than $1 million from the latest round of IMLS awards. These will aid the school in supporting new doctoral students and in creating a state of the art digital preservation education facility and curriculum. The Institute of Museum and Library Studies is a federal agency that fosters leadership, innovation and learning in museums, libraries and the arts.

University of Texas at Austin, School of Information - Austin, TX - $626,755

2004 Recruiting and Educating Librarians for the 21st Century

The University of Texas at Austin, School of Information will build institutional capacity to educate digital librarians by developing future faculty and library managers, as well as recruiting new librarians into a technology-centered digitization curriculum that documents and researches policy and issues related to digital libraries. During the project, a curriculum will be developed and evaluated, a teaching and digitization infrastructure will be created, and research and publications will be initiated that track best practices. By the conclusion of the program, five master's students and one doctoral student will be recruited for specialized careers and/or research and teaching in the area of digital libraries.

2004 Recruiting and Educating Librarians for the 21st Century

The University of Texas at Austin, School of Information will recruit six doctoral students to study youth librarianship in public and school libraries and the role of youth librarianship within healthy communities. The students will do advanced academic research work with faculty and mentoring professionals, while developing close relationships fostered by library-community partnerships and other community resources and activities in the Austin area.
