Strong iSchool Presence at ASIST Conference

Once again there was a strong showing for the iSchool at the annual conference of the American Society for Information Science and Technology. The following is a list of papers, posters and presentations from students and faculty at the Providence RI meeting this November:

  • Lisa Kleinman presented "Reading and Searching Digital Documents", on behalf of her co-authors, Andrew Dillon, Randolph Bias, Don Turnbull and Gil Ok Choi.

  • Don Turnbull also participated in a panel on "Information Related Management Issues: Examining the Applicability of Research Methodologies"

  • Fran Miksa participated in two panels, one on "Knowledge, Information and Behavior (a tribute to Patrick Wilson)" and another on "Outside Theory on the Inside of LIS".

  • Oliver Chen (with students, Sheng-Cheng Huang and Chao-Hsui Chen) presented "A Case Study of Communication Channels in a Higher Education Institution".

  • Lance Hayden presented a poster entitled "Information Seeking Behavior in Computer and Network Security Mailing Lists".

The ASIST Conference is the premier research gathering of the information science community and attracts scholars from around the globe to a 4 day session of refereed research presentations, seminars and discussions on all facets of information studies. This year, the keynote addresses were given by Tim Berners-Lee and JC Herz, both of whom discussed issues around the theme of the conference: "Managing and Enhancing Information: Cultures and Conflicts". The iSchool also had a table at the alumni reception for former students and friend of the school to gather and catch up on the school and each other"s lives. Full details of the program can be found at http://www.asis.org/Conferences/AM04/index.html. In 2006, the ASIST Conference will be held here in Austin Texas.
